Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell, along with other City of Austin officials, announced in April 2013 that Google is bringing its 100x faster Internet connectivity—Google Fiber—to Austin, making the city the second in the nation to have this service. ECPR worked closely with Austin officials and Google to make the announcement event a tremendous success, as well as the best-kept secret in town up until the day of the announcement. Press coverage included virtually every media outlet in Austin, in addition to major national outlets. ECPR continues to work with Google Fiber on media outreach, community relations, social media and marketing initiatives in anticipation of the service roll-out in mid-2014.
