When I was in high school Mrs. Christian gave me an opportunity to intern at a couple of different events for her organization. While it was over a decade ago I can honestly say that those experience’s were crucial in my professional development and are memories I will never forget. Congratulations on joining one of the best teams in Austin. Make sure you listen well, there are things that she said only once that have always stuck with me. Best of luck and just remember…Move Faster. Think Smarter. Work Harder.

What a great reminder! Having eight colleagues brainstorm certainly avoids the typical “group-thinking.” The greatest ideas come from everyone and by acknowledging others’ ideas is important as people need to feel valued. The more valued they feel, the more apt they are to contribute in future sessions.

Really nice article, Meg. My 2 cents would be that I just visited the site & read this article because you tweeted about it. Until that tweet, visiting EC&A PR wasn’t #1 on my to-do list for the day… perhaps #2 or 3

John, these are great tips…particularly since they highlight the possibility that all of us might need to ward off negative publicity at one point in our lives. And you nailed the most important point first: breathe, stay calm, and make a gameplan. You have to override the instinctual fight-or-flight emotions and remember that surviving is a matter of staying cool in the intense heat of the moment.
