St. David’s Georgetown Hospital Announces New Chief Medical Officer
St. David’s Georgetown Hospital today announced the addition of Jim Donovan, M.D. as Chief Medical Officer for the facility.
Prior to joining St. David’s Georgetown Hospital as Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Donovan was an Assistant Professor and Site Director in the Department of Family and Community Health at John A. Burns School of Medicine and a staff member at Hilo Medical Center in Hilo, Hawaii. Before moving to Hawaii in January 2008 and taking a leave of absence from the hospital, Dr. Donovan was a partner at the Georgetown Medical Center Clinic where he practiced family medicine, as well as a member of the Board of Directors for Georgetown Healthcare System (now St. David’s Georgetown Hospital).
As the Chief Medical Officer for St. David’s Georgetown Hospital, Dr. Donovan will serve as the senior liaison between hospital management and physicians on the medical staff. He replaces Dr. David Martin who has served as the Chief Medical Officer for both St. David’s Georgetown Hospital and St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center since June 2007. Dr. Martin is now the full-time Chief Medical Officer for St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center.
"Dr. Martin provided exceptional clinical leadership to St. David's Georgetown Hospital during the transition from Georgetown Healthcare System to being a St. David's Healthcare facility,” Hugh Brown, Chief Executive Officer of St. David’s Georgetown Hospital, said. “He spearheaded the hospital's efforts to improve quality of care, which recently resulted in St. David's Georgetown Hospital receiving the 2009 Texas Healthcare Quality Improvement Award of Excellence, which was only given to 27 hospitals in the State of Texas."
During his prior time at St. David’s Georgetown Hospital (then known as Georgetown Healthcare System), Dr. Donovan served the hospital in various leadership roles, including Chief of Medical Staff and as a longstanding member of the Board of Trustees. Dr. Donovan was one of the key leaders on the hospital’s medical staff who encouraged and facilitated the move to have Georgetown Healthcare System become part of St. David's HealthCare in 2006.
"Dr. Donovan is uniquely qualified for this role because of his extensive clinical experience, the administrative and leadership expertise he honed while in Hawaii, and the strong relationships he has with physicians, hospital staff and the Georgetown community,” Brown said. “I am looking forward to his leadership and input as the hospital and medical staff continue to provide exceptional care to every patient every day."
Dr. Donovan’s résumé includes membership in the American Academy of Family Physicians, Hawaii Academy of Family Physicians, Society of Teachers of Family Medicine and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He is certified with and a diplomat in the American Board of Family Practice and holds medical licenses in the States of Texas and Hawaii.
Dr. Donovan holds a doctor of medicine degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and a Bachelor of Arts with Honors from The University of Texas at Austin. He completed his internship and residency in family medicine at John Peter Smith Hospital in Ft. Worth.
Dr. Donovan will reside in Georgetown with his wife, Carol. They are parents to their two children, Brian, 25, and Erin, 23. Dr. Donovan’s hobbies include flying, golfing, gardening and fly fishing.
