Concordia University Texas Adds Two Specializations to Master in Education Degree
Concordia University Texas announced today that two specializations—Early Childhood Education and Early Childhood Education Administration—will be available at the start of the Spring 2010 semester for students pursuing a Master in Education degree. Both specializations will only offer classes at the University’s main campus.
“One of the core tenants of the mission of the Master in Education degree at Concordia is to develop educational practitioners who exemplify leadership in value-centered education,” Dr. Gert Kieper, Director of Early Childhood Education at Concordia University Texas, said. “With the addition of our two new specializations, we are pleased to help develop educators and administrators who can be leaders in the field of early childhood education.”
The Early Childhood Education Administration and Early Childhood Education specializations prepare specialists in early childhood education. These programs further develop students’ knowledge and understanding of young children and families, and provide opportunities to study and challenge past and present theories of early childhood development. A strong emphasis is placed on developing curriculum through play and participants become competent leaders to construct, administer, and be an advocate for early childhood programs.
Students form cohorts of 10 to 20 students year round and generally progress through the courses together throughout the duration of the program. This creates a permanent study group and support circle, as well as personalized relationships among students and faculty. Each eight-week course meets one night per week, with the exception of the capstone course, which meets for 16 weeks, and the second summer session course, which meets for four weeks, two nights per week.
