Concordia University Texas Celebrates Fall 2009 Commencement
Austin-area Business Leader, Dick Moeller to Deliver Commencement Address
Concordia University Texas will celebrate its fall 2009 commencement on Saturday, December 5 at 10 a.m. The ceremony will honor approximately 260 students.
The commencement ceremony will take place at Riverbend Church and will feature live ceremony music. The invocation will be given by the University’s campus pastor, the Reverend Bruce Peffer. Dr. Tom Cedel, Concordia University Texas President, will welcome the graduates, their friends and family, and confer the degrees.
“Each semester, we are blessed to honor a group of stellar students at Concordia and celebrate the dedication and service they have given while attending our University,” Dr. Cedel said. “Our graduates will bring Christian leadership and values to their communities, make a positive difference and increase the Kingdom of God.”
The commencement address will be given by F.H. (Dick) Moeller, whose career spans more than 35 years of executive leadership for a variety of public and private companies, nonprofits, faith-based organizations and community advisory boards. Currently, Moeller serves as the founding Principal of Enovate Enterprises, LLC, a consulting firm focused on assisting entrepreneurs, founders, companies and organizations to achieve their full potential with strategic planning, mentoring, coaching, market strategy, governance design and board services.
In addition, Moeller is the founder and President of Water to Thrive, a faith-based nonprofit that works to bring fresh, safe water to rural Africa. Moeller serves on the Board of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, the nation’s largest fraternal organization, serving over 2.8 million members and managing more than $70 billion of assets.
Most recently, Moeller has served as President and CEO of St. David’s Community Health Foundation, as well as a member of the Board of Governors for the St. David’s HealthCare, which consists of 24 sites across Central Texas, including five of the area’s leading hospitals.
“Dick was instrumental in significantly increasing St. David’s Community Health Foundation’s impact on the community through programs and strategies that stressed community need, research, best practices, outcomes and fiscal stewardship,” Dr. Cedel said.
Since 2000, Moeller has provided significant leadership on the Board of United Way Capital Area (UWCA), where he has served as campaign co-chair, helping to raise $21 million, and Chair of the Board of Directors. During his board leadership, UWCA completed a significant governance redesign and a strategic community needs assessment that led to the adoption of a new model of community impact for UWCA.
Moeller remains active in his community and church, serving on a number of board positions, including the Concordia University Texas College of Business Advisory Board. He holds an MBA from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington. Moeller received the Distinguished Alumni Award from University of Texas at Arlington in 1999.
