The proposed Boardwalk Trail at Lady Bird Lake would extend the hike-and-bike trail around Lady Bird Lake more than one mile from the east side of the Austin American-Statesman building to Lakeshore Park. Currently, pedestrians, runners and bikers are forced to use the Riverside Drive sidewalk over Interstate 35. The hike-and-bike trail around Lady Bird Lake was part of the vision of Lady Bird Johnson and other community leaders who led efforts to beautify the shores of Austin's central city lake. In 2007, the Town Lake Trail Foundation, with private funding, completed the Riverside Boardwalk Investment Study, which provided a comprehensive analysis of the issues and opportunities in closing the 1.2-mile gap in the hike-and-bike trail. With the Texas Legislature already a month into its 79th regular session, Elizabeth Christian & Associates Public Relations was engaged to develop a media strategy for bills supporting private property rights in Texas. The issue centered on "just compensation" for taking of property for public uses. Our agency created an image and Web site for the newly formed group of property owners, orchestrated a statewide media campaign with special attention to targeted legislative districts, and placed op-eds statewide, including one authored by Texas Agriculture Commissioner Susan Combs. In addition, the firm organized and led editorial board meetings for targeted metropolitan newspapers in the state. Op-ed pieces prepared by our firm ran in dozens of state newspapers. A public service campaign we created ran on every major television and news radio station in the state, accompanied by PSAs in the state's major theater chains. A two-part poll we commissioned and oversaw tracked Texans' feelings on Y2K between September and December, showing strong gains in confidence in the state's readiness and heartening increases in respondents' preparedness.

Long Center for the Performing Arts
The Greater Austin Performing Arts Center came to Elizabeth Christian & Associates with a problem: It had tried to get a resolution passed with the Austin City Council that would allow the group to renovate the City of Austin’s Palmer Auditorium into a performing arts center. Unfortunately, the issue had become extremely politicized, and the City Council voted down the resolution. Elizabeth Christian & Associates helped the group completely reinvent itself: Our firm created a new name— ARTS (Austin Revitalizes the Shores) Center Stage—that better captured the energy and excitement of the project. We recruited a diverse team of community chairs. We directed extensive market research and polling, from which we developed a compelling message about the importance of the arts to the entire community. We ran a sophisticated public relations/political campaign that resulted in the successful passage of Propositions 11 and 12 on the November 1998 ballot in Austin. These two propositions allowed the revitalization of Auditorium Shores and the renovation of Palmer Auditorium into a first-class, multivenue performing arts center. The Long Center for the Performing Arts opened in March 2008. Today, Elizabeth Christian & Associates assists the Long Center with media relations strategy.
