Fabulous Interns
Elizabeth Christian & Associates Public Relations has run an
extensive internship program for many years. We typically have as
many as two to four interns, most of whom are college seniors majoring
in public relations or related fields and all of whom are included
in challenging assignments and client work. Are
you interested in an internship?
What we learned at ECPR…
As seniors in college, we’ve done our share of busywork, part-time jobs and endless errands for people who can’t ever seem to remember our names. We can honestly say that this summer with Elizabeth Christian & Associates Public Relations (ECPR) has been more than a “typical internship.” It has proven vital not only for building portfolios, but helping understand the true meaning of public relations.
While at ECPR, we each wrote press releases, followed media, clipped client articles, and created and presented a Wikipedia site to a client. The staff gave us countless opportunities to work on interesting projects that kept us on our feet. We were able to speak with media outlets that allowed for the advancement of our communication skills as well as learn how to create media lists through CisionPoint. With the opportunities to attend staff meetings and trainings, we were able to see how a PR firm runs and meets client needs. All of these opportunities allowed us to feel like a part of the ECPR team.
One of the best aspects of the internship is the mentoring program. Each intern had the opportunity to work side by side with an account executive. We had the privilege of shadowing Elizabeth Christian for a day. Watching the president of the firm firsthand was a lesson that no professor could write on the board or preach from a slideshow. Elizabeth truly cares about the advancement of the public relations practice and all who wish to work as communications professionals. It was extremely beneficial to meet with her, watch her work, listen to advice, and understand what life looks like in the world of public relations.
We were looking to gain PR experience, but we got more than a résumé boost. We learned how to work in a professional environment. The ECPR staff showed true professionalism and respect for each other, their clients and us. It truly is a goal of each person who works here to help his or her neighbor (even when that neighbor is an intern, asking the same question for the millionth time). Thank you for your patience, ECPR!
This internship has been beyond wonderful. Thanks again!
Sincerely,
Rachel Bell, Jennifer Pullen, Deanna Schaekel and Monica Vasquez
