John Egan has more than 20 years of experience in the news media and public relations arenas.

Before joining Elizabeth Christian & Associates Public Relations in August 2008, Egan was president of his own company, UpWord Communications, specializing in writing, editing and public relations. Previous public relations clients include GamePlan, College Real Estate LLC, NLI Media Group, ACLU of Texas, the Peace of Mind 5K and the HeartGift Foundation.

Egan was editor of the Austin Business Journal from 2004 to 2006 and managing editor from 1999 to 2004.

Previously, he was copy editor at the St. Louis Business Journal and wire/copy editor at the Belleville News-Democrat in Belleville, Ill. From
1986 to 1996, Egan was a reporter at the News Tribune Co. newspapers in Jefferson City, Mo., where he covered state government, politics, health care and other beats. He has won writing awards from the Texas Press Association and the Missouri Press Association.

Egan, a native of Kansas, earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Kansas.
