Elizabeth Christian & Associates Public Relations (ECPR) offers
an extensive internship program. Internship opportunities are typically
given to four students per semester. Most interns are college seniors
majoring in public relations or related fields and all are included
in challenging assignments and client work.
ECPR internships are not paid, but do meet requirements for class
credit. Interns typically work 15 hours per week in blocks of time
(i.e. MWF 8:30 -1:30 or 12:30 - 5:30 OR TTH 8:30 - 1:30 or 12:30
- 5:30). It is important for the intern to commit to the internship
for the entire semester. Paid parking is provided.
Ideal candidates have had several public relations classes, have
strong writing skills and are familiar with the Associated Press
(AP) writing style. Candidates must complete an application and
provide a resume, cover letter and professional letter of recommendation
from a previous employer or internship supervisor. If a professional
letter is not available, a letter of recommendation from a public
relations professor will suffice.
Interns perform such tasks as: creating media lists, coordinating
research projects, providing event assistance, tracking and clipping
news coverage, writing and editing press materials, distributing
news releases, assembling media kits and various administrative
duties.
Interested applicants should complete the attached
application and fax back along with a resume, cover letter and letter of recommendation
to Kathleen Smith at 512/472-9699 or
. Deadlines are early
July for Fall, early November for Spring and early April for Summer.
My internship at ECPR was valuable because...
I was given hands-on, substantive and challenging work that exposed
me to nearly every nuance of PR I could have imagined; my time at
ECPR literally transformed me from college student to real-world
professional.
my work at Elizabeth Christian & Associates really prepared me
for the work I am doing now.
it gave me my first taste of agency life. I learned about the day-to-day
duties of a PR professional, and was able to see that it was something
I wanted to try myself when I graduated. Thanks, ECPR!
I have a real grasp of the big picture of the projects I work
on here. I loved that at ECPR I had the opportunity to experience
and contribute to projects in their various phases; from researching
new business, to creating media lists, to pitching and following
up with media, to tracking media, to compiling media kits, to seeing
the end result (Cirque Du Soleil and Light/The Holocaust and Humanity
Project) and even helping with the final report.
because it allowed me to get my hands on a very broad variety of
tasks that all played a role in getting the projects from inception
to finish successfully. Aside from that, of course, I got to work
with not only great clients, but also with such brilliant and creative
people in the office from week to week. Thanks again for a great
first internship and a great semester!
of the variety of tasks and events I was able to work on as well
as the staff being wonderful mentors for me.
it taught me several different office and communication skills.
This experience was important because it taught me to speak up and
share my ideas. I was also able to work with an awesome staff that
has left me with an excitement about entering the work force and
an anticipation of immersing myself into another great staff.
I was given the opportunity to see first hand what agency PR was
like. In my time as an intern with the firm, the entire staff, president
included, strived to make sure all of the interns were given challenging
as well as rewarding experiences and opportunities. Thank you, ECPR!
everyone on staff was dedicated to making the internship as rewarding
and enriching as possible. They never failed to answer questions
or offer advice on projects. They are professionals in the best
and truest sense!
